A great problem that we are facing in the therapy work with war-traumatised persons is the lack of educated professionals due to ideological neglect of psychotherapy in the previous socialist system of values. Today, the general problem in the educational system in Bosnia and Herzegovina is that it gives too much theory, and no practical skill. This way, our universities educate psychologists who haven't had the chance even to see the client and their highest reach is in the field of diagnostic work. As opposed to this are the psychiatrists who cherish the medical approach i.e. the therapy with the use of medications by which they treat consequences, and not the real causes of the problem. Even if they wanted to do more, they are unable due to too much crowd on the clinics where they work.
Therefore the Wings of Hope Foundation continuously works on educating professionals that work with traumatised children, youth, adults and the public. Next to working on the education of the own staff within the organisation, Wings of Hope organises external educational for professionals, psychologists, neuropsychiatrists, pedagogues, school teachers, youth organisations' volunteers that work with war-traumatised people, introducing this way the new methods and approach and changing the image of war trauma from the disease towards it as a state of mind: »Normal and sound human reaction to abnormal and unsound events.»
With its programs of education, Wings of Hope co-operates with world-renowned centres that in theory and practice deal with the issue of war trauma and help to people that suffer from its consequences:
At the moment the Wings of Hope Foundations works on educating /specialisation/ of 25 experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of psychotraumatology and trauma-centred psychotherapy, education in the application of EMDR technique in the work with children and youth and in co-operation with local NGOs «Vive Zene»-Tuzla and OKC-Banja Luka - the education in use of technique «Therapeutic fairy-tales and their use in work with children».
