PROFESSIONALISM AND EMPATHY - A KEY TO SUCCESS

In its practical therapeutic work with children and youth, the Wings of Hope Foundation cherishes the psychological cognitive-behavioural approach, where work is focused on the humane personality development and building up of resources.

Theoretical and practical framework

Four-stage trauma-centred therapeutic model

  • Anamnesis;
  • Stabilisation and building up resources;
  • Exposition of traumatic experience;
  • Integration of traumatic experience.

The second stage/stabilisation and building up resources/ work with client has a continuous duration throughout the process in individual or group work of therapeutic treatment, while the third stage /exposition/ is done only if the client himself is ready to confront the causes of his problems under the guidance of the therapist. In this stage there is work on processing traumatic experience. The fourth stage/Integration/ closure of therapeutic work.

Wings of Hope opposes the use of medications in therapeutic work with children and youth. We do not state categorically that there are no acute cases where such treatment is needed, but we believe such approach is not appropriate for the normal mental development of the child or a young person. We hold the opinion that all other possibilities should be investigated and tested, individual or group therapy work, different kinds of pedagogical educational-entertaining activities, and to have lots iof patience and empathy for the problems that the war-traumatised children and youth are facing.

Foundation Wings of Hope has through practical work, in the past ten years, developed its own methodology, own way of client's status follow-up and of indicators of traumatism - developed on the basis of DSM-IV by APA and the ICD-10 by WHO.
